Moolchand Petrol Pump declared as a National Heritage

“It’s the end of an era”, those were the last words of the emotional and nostalgic speech the L.G. Delhi gave at the inauguration of Moolchand Petrol Pump after being declared as a National Heritage.

As tears rolled down his face while reminiscing his old days in Delhi, the L.G. talked about his old days in Dyal Singh College and how the Petrol Pump was his first morning pitstop and how Rs. 100 were enough to get a day’s supply of fuel for his 125cc bike.

The L.G. who grew up in South Delhi said that he had a special relationship with this place. “It was like the morning Temple visit for me.”

The sentiment shared on stage by the L.G. was also shared by the sheer number of people who had come to attend the inauguration.

Amit Mehta one of the audience members who talked to our correspondent also shared some of his old cherished memories of the pump.

“Ji subah college se pehle saare dost subah ki cigarette, chai aur rolling paper yahin kharidte the aur late raat ki bhook mitaane ke liye 24X7 toh tha hi, bahut yaadein hai sir yahan ki.”

The petrol pump which went out of business along with numerous others after the chain of events starting June 2019 has always held a soft spot within the hearts of Delhiites and especially for people from south Delhi.

The event also witnessed protest from the Activist group “OIL ALWAYS” who raised placards with messages like, “18 JUNE 2019 WILL BE REVERSED” and shouted the slogan ‘PETROL TU WAPIS AAYEGA, VROOM VROOM FIR SADKO PAR SUNA JAAYEGA’.

The group was managed and controlled by Delhi Police who jammed their data packs when the protests started getting violent.
