Revolt RV BlazeX vs Petrol 125cc Bikes: Running Cost Comparison

Revolt RV BlazeX vs Petrol 125cc Bikes: Running Cost Comparison

The 125cc petrol motorcycle is the default choice for millions of Indian riders. It is powerful enough for the highway, light enough for the city and familiar enough that nobody questions it. But fuel prices keep rising, service bills keep arriving and more riders are asking whether an electric motorcycle can do the same job for less. The Revolt RV BlazeX, with its 85 km/h* top speed and 150 km* claimed range, is built for exactly that kind of rider.

In this guide we compare the real running cost of the Revolt RV BlazeX against a typical 125cc petrol bike. We show the assumptions, do the maths at three different monthly distances, look at servicing and ownership costs, and explain when the electric option makes the most sense.

Why Compare the BlazeX With a 125cc Bike?

A 125cc petrol motorcycle sits in the same practical space as the BlazeX: city commuting with the ability to handle an occasional longer trip. Both are meant for daily use, both carry a pillion and both are expected to be reliable. That makes it the fairest comparison for the BlazeX, which has a 4.1 kW motor, 45 Nm of torque and a payload of 250 kg.

The Assumptions Behind the Numbers

To keep this honest, we use round, conservative figures. Treat the results as an illustration and replace the inputs with your own.

  • BlazeX energy use: the battery is 3.24 kWh. We add 10 to 15% for charging loss, so about 3.6 kWh from the wall per full charge.

  • Electricity price: ₹8 per kWh, a typical household figure. Your tariff may be lower or higher.

  • BlazeX real-world range: 100 km per charge. The claimed IDC range is 150 km*, so this is deliberately cautious.

  • Petrol bike: a 125cc commuter returning about 50 km per litre, with petrol at ₹100 per litre.

The result: a full charge costs about ₹29, so the BlazeX costs around ₹0.30 per km. The petrol bike costs around ₹2.00 per km.

Revolt states its electric bikes can save up to ₹3,000 a month* depending on riding and local costs. Our conservative table stays below that figure while still showing a large gap. To test your own numbers, use the Electric Motorcycle Savings Calculator.

What the Saving Looks Like Over a Year

A rider covering 1,000 km every month travels 12,000 km a year. On our assumptions, that is about ₹24,000 in petrol compared with about ₹3,600 in electricity, a difference of roughly ₹20,400 a year. Over five years at the same distance, the fuel difference alone passes ₹1 lakh. If you ride more, or petrol gets more expensive, the gap widens. If you ride less, the gap narrows, which is why your actual daily distance is the most important input.

Servicing and Maintenance

A 125cc petrol bike has an engine with many moving parts. It needs regular engine oil changes, air filter replacements, spark plug replacement, valve checks, clutch and chain care, and attention to the fuel system. Revolt's electric bikes do not need engine oil, filters, spark plugs, valves or carburettors, which removes a large part of the usual service list.

That does not mean zero maintenance. Tyres, brakes, the chain, suspension and general inspection still apply. The BlazeX uses a chain drive, so occasional cleaning and adjustment is part of ownership, and the Combined Braking System with disc brakes will need periodic checks. Follow the schedule in your owner's manual. For more, see our guide to Revolt electric bike maintenance.

The Upfront Price Question

Electric motorcycles usually cost more to buy than a comparable petrol bike. The way to think about this is break-even: divide the extra upfront cost by your monthly saving. For example, if the difference is ₹30,000 and you save ₹1,700 a month, you recover it in under 18 months. After that, the saving is yours. Prices differ by city and change with offers, so check the current figure on the BlazeX page or at your nearest dealership. Incentives also vary by state and change over time. Our guide to government subsidy for electric bikes in India explains what to look for.

Battery Life and Long-Term Cost

The BlazeX battery carries a warranty of 8 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first, and Revolt states the battery will be replaced if its health drops below 70% within the warranty period. The vehicle itself has a 5 year or 60,000 km warranty. Terms and conditions apply. This long battery warranty reduces one of the biggest worries about owning an electric vehicle.

Charging in Real Life

You do not need a public charging station. The BlazeX battery is removable and the bike comes with a portable charger that plugs into a standard home socket. A normal charge from 0 to 80% takes about 3 hours 30 minutes, and fast charging takes about 80 minutes*. Most riders will charge at night, which fits naturally into a daily routine. Our BlazeX charging guide explains it step by step.

Where the Petrol Bike Still Wins

An honest comparison should name the trade-offs. A petrol bike can be refuelled in minutes anywhere, so very long journeys are simpler. The upfront price is typically lower. And if you ride only a few hundred kilometres a month, the electric savings take longer to add up. If you regularly cover long highway distances beyond the BlazeX's range, plan your charging carefully or consider whether a petrol bike suits that part of your riding.

Who Saves the Most With the BlazeX?

  • Daily commuters riding 30 km or more a day.

  • Riders who carry a pillion or luggage and want a practical bike with 250 kg payload.

  • People with access to home or office charging.

  • Anyone tired of rising petrol prices and regular workshop visits.

How to Calculate Your Own Saving

  1. Write down your average monthly distance.

  2. Divide your petrol price by your bike's real-world km per litre to get petrol cost per km.

  3. Multiply your electricity price per kWh by 3.6, then divide by your realistic range per charge to get the electric cost per km.

  4. Subtract the electric cost from the petrol cost and multiply by your monthly distance.

  5. Divide the extra upfront price of the electric bike by that monthly saving to see your break-even point.

Final Verdict

On conservative assumptions, the Revolt RV BlazeX costs about ₹0.30 per km to run, against about ₹2.00 per km for a 125cc petrol bike. That is a saving of roughly ₹1,700 a month at 1,000 km, before counting lower servicing costs. The upfront price is higher, but the monthly savings recover it for riders who cover regular distances.
